Disconnect To Reconnect

Sometimes you have to disconnect to reconnect with yourself and the world. I decided to take a little hiatus from social media; I even deleted the apps from my phone. I felt ungrounded, overwhelmed, lost on my path with confusion of where I should go or do next.

Do you ever notice when you take a shower, take your car out for a drive, workout, or do your favorite hobby that you get lost in time. You lose track of what is going on in the world, any problems you may be experiencing, for that brief moment you having nothingness.

Nothingness opens the portal for “a-ha” moments. I know for myself, I get my best ideas when I take a shower. When you quiet your mind, it relaxes the noise we carry around with us everyday. Our minds are an exceptional powerful tool, if we can go as far to allow it to make us sick or stress us out, just imagine what you can do or achieve if you went the other way in the positive. You would amaze yourself of what you are capable of.

 

It’s been about 2 months of no social media and I can you that it’s amazing. We all are so connected with social media and yet at the same time we’re not connected. Most of our communication is via social media or text messaging; when was the last time you called someone out of the blue just to see how they were doing? We don’t talk anymore.

Being away from social media has allowed me to be more focused on what I want to do in this transitional period of my life. To stop and smell the roses, to experience life without having to tell the whole world what I’m doing. You may not want to admit it but you’d be shocked how much more things you get done without checking Facebook or Instagram every 5 minutes. We all do it, we all check our phones right when we get up in the morning; its distracting.

 

I shut off from the world in order to be connected with the world again. I was tired of working the two jobs I had which were not challenging my mind and soul. My boyfriend inspired and motivated me to search for jobs in my field of study, Forensic psychology.


In a short span of 2 months, I found a new job and will be moving to New York to start a new chapter in my life.

I have no idea where this will take me but I’m just enjoying the ride…

All in all, don’t underestimate the power of disconnecting for a while. It’s normal, healthy and even essential to get grounded again. We live in a over stimulated world and it’s okay to give our minds need a break.
